Sunday - Little Rock to Oklahoma City to Amarillo

We spent the morning listening to the first few chapters of a great book...

We stopped at the Oklahoma Welcome Center to use the restroom and were treated to another cardboard cut out photo opp...

While in the van the kids read, sketch, listen to books and music, and play games on their devices. They also act goofy...

We stopped in Oklahoma City for lunch. Three of the kids tried steak at the Cattlemen's Cafe.

Here is another pic from the surrounding area...

Our second stop was the Oklahoma City Memorial, constructed after the 1995 bombing that killed almost 200 people. We saw "Survival Tree", which miraculously withstood the blast.

There was an empty chair erected for each victim. We heard a few stories from the park ranger which really touched our hearts.

The gate at one end read 9:01 and the other read 9:03. The blast, which occured between  the two gates, happened at 9:02. The two gate times represent innocence and hope.

Other pics from the Memorial. The last two make me a bit disappointed. See if you can tell why.

When we were back at the van the kids sketched what they saw. Harper focused on the positive - the Survival Tree.

  1. Great book to listen to. Nice way to pass the time. Didja get me a souvenir from the Oklahoma City Bombing? Didja? Didja? That really is weird.

Still raining torrents here. We probably had 3/4 of an inch today again. How many days did it rain back in Noah's day? It won't be hard coming up with two mosquitoes, two roaches, two tree frogs...

Harper's picture is lovely. You all look pretty chill. When I looked at your blog you had just posted 5 minutes ago. Yep, I look at your blog CONSTANTLY - not. Hope all is well.
